Holy Sinkhole!

After Jeter passed away, we had a very eventful weekend. The following morning, we found a portion of a large tree fell in our backyard and broke part of our fence. While we thought that would be the primary issue we'd have to take care of that coming week... then we walked out to find a giant sinkhole right next to where my car was parked on the driveway!

My car could've almost fit inside... and it started a monthlong journey of contacting various utility companies and the township to figure out what exactly happened.

Eventually we got to the conclusion that an oddly located septic tank was never fully filled in from prior to our moving here; and combined with our neighbor's water drainage system that they setup with perforated pipes causes water to continually seep down our hill and eventually shifted the ground to collapse the tank into itself.

We'll never know for sure as it's all a best guess, but thankfully it happened overnight and no animals or people were harmed in the process of it's collapse. We briefly considered putting in a front yard in-ground mini pool...

Over six weeks later, we can finally use the driveway again and are working on slowly compressing the added dirt which continues to be moist from their drainage. Phew... this crisis was costly in both time and money, but thankfully no one was hurt or lost to the underground.

We even had a few deer come to visit and stand around the hole to check it out for a night or two.
